Free chat with your meal
Friday 25 April, 2008 12:01am
HAWKESBURY seniors can now find solidarity with their peers and eat out in their own space with the opening of the new Beaches Seniors Restaurant.
A limited number of people can taste the menu for free at the launch on Tuesday.
The March St, Richmond restaurant, and its centre-based meals program at Hawkesbury Seniors Leisure and Learning Centre, will be operated by Peppercorn Services on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program will provide social support and activities like theme days and guest speakers.
The aim of the restaurant is to provide seniors who may not have opportunities to meet others to do so over a meal and a chat.
Resident chef Peter Morrisey will prepare a variety of meals catering for individual dietary requirements and tastes.
Mayor Bart Bassett said the council was preparing for the future and the needs of an ageing population.
It had also formed an alliance with several business partners to investigate options for expanding the existing centre.
The Meals Program is funded by the Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care.
A free two-course lunch will be held for at noon on Tuesday, May 6.
Transport is available. Bookings essential by May 2. Call 4577 8849.
