Lending a friendly hand
Tuesday 22 April, 2008 9:01am
BUSINESSWOMEN of Penrith do not despair a new network is being formed for you right now.
The highly popular Women with Altitude group ended last year, a victim of its own success after founders Andrea Turner-Boys and Kerry Gooch bowed out due to the overwhelming workload.
Natalie Moutia and Cindy Steele have stepped into the breach to launch Penrith Women's Network.
The two businesswomen Ms Moutia runs her own marketing business and Ms Steele a jewellery business have already started a successful network in the Hills area, and want to branch into Penrith, Blacktown, the lower Mountains and the Hawkesbury.
The pair met at a Women with Altitude meeting four years ago and feel there is a need for a group specifically for women.
"Chamber meetings and other similar meetings are very formal," Ms Moutia said.
"Women with Altitude was fun and friendly and not pressured, the absolute opposite of chamber meetings.
"The primary purpose of the meetings will be about business networking, but they will be social events as well."
Ms Steele said women "wanted to help other women" and they were not concerned with the workload as they were "full of enthusiasm".
Ms Moutia said when she had started in business she had felt "alone" with not much support.
"We can act in a mentoring role to other women starting up in businesses."
The launch lunch will be held at Penrith RSL's Macquarie Room on Friday, May 23 from noon until 2pm.
Penrith Mayor Greg Davies and Penrith Councillor Karen McKeown were due to attend.
RSVP by May 19 to Ms Steele at cindy@desiredjewellery.com.au or phone 0414 392 004 or Ms Moutia on 0419 687 846 or natalie@nmarketing.com.au.
