Police target hotspots

HAWKESBURY residents can start feeling a lot safer thanks to a new mobile police station.
State Police Minister David Campbell presented the new $100,000 station at South Windsor Shopping Centre last Tuesday.
Londonderry State Labor MP Allan Shearan said the station should be a "helpful little device" for the community.
"It's very visible, so if it's located somewhere where there is often trouble in certain areas ... we can use it as a high visibility facility," he said.
"This will be of great help at locations such as Richmond Park on Friday and Saturday nights."
Mr Shearan said he and Riverstone State Labor MP John Aquilina had mentioned the need for a mobile station to the Minister some time ago.
"The command itself is probably the largest geographically in the Sydney area," Mr Shearan said.
"When you consider the size of the command and the isolated villages, it's a handy device."
Mr Campbell said the mobile police station was equipped with a UHF police radio, mobile data terminal and interview room.
"It is clear that mobile police stations assist police efforts by allowing them to maintain high visibility policing at shopping centres, train stations and designated crime hotspots," he said.
"It will be a very helpful resource for police and the more facilities that can be provided to help our police on the ground, the better," Mr Shearan said.
Mr Aquilina said the arrival of the station would be a great benefit to local policing efforts.
"This gives police the power to respond instantly to events as they are unfolding as well as having high visibility," he said.
