School kids show their skills to PM
Friday 18 April, 2008 9:00am
JAMISON High School student Nicholas Gentile's rendition of the national anthem was "one of the best" Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has ever heard.
Nick, 16, (pictured) entertained the audience at the Community Cabinet meeting, singing Danny Boy accompanied by Pulse, a band made up of high school students from Sydney's west.
Catering students from Cambridge Park, Glenmore Park and Jamison High schools worked hard to keep the crowd supplied with sandwiches and drinks, and school captains from Jamison High greeted guests as they arrived. Jamison High principal Graham Hodgkins was MC.
"I've been here since 7am liaising with the Prime Minister's people and the police," Mr Hodgkins said.
"The school captains got to have a word with the Prime Minster earlier. It's been fantastic for the school and fantastic for the community. The school has been seen all over the country."
Jamison High School has a tradition of moulding successful singers, with former students performing on Broadway and at a Winter Olympics.
