Hockey star comes home to show the rookies how
Thursday 27 March, 2008 12:00am
PENRITH and NSW hockey player Natasha Christian brought her teammates from the under-18 NSW team home earlier this month to put the rising stars of the Western Districts hockey club through their paces and teach them new skills.
The state women's head coach, assistant coach and the under-18s team led a coaching session at the University of Western Sydney hockey field for eight Western Sydney representative players, aged between 12 to 15 years.
Madeleine Brazier, 14, attended the coaching session and said she learned a lot about the game and had a great time.
"The most valuable skill I was taught on Saturday was a different way of jinking the ball over the opposition's stick to eliminate them," she said.
"I've never jinked that way before."
The attendance of the entire state side allowed each of the young players to receive plenty of one-on-one and two-on-one coaching.
Holly Odgers, 14, said "the one thing I learned was that it's not always about power but it's about accuracy and direction".
