Spreading the soccer gospel
Thursday 27 March, 2008 12:00am
WHILE Socceroo Mark Schwarzer was busy in the Premier League on Tuesday, his younger brother Daniel was helping kids in St Marys.
The Penrith Nepean United goalkeeper led St Marys Public school students in a series of skills-based exercises including passing, dribbling and heading balls.
The clinic marked the official launch of the 2008 McDonald's Football NSW Kick It Kids school development program.
The program, in its inaugural year, is aiming at developing the game at a grassroots level.
"I was proud to launch the the inaugural development program," Schwarzer said.
"My brother Mark and I have been passionate about football from a young age and used to kick the ball around in the back yard together.
"Having played for Richmond RSL Club at the age of five, I understand the importance of encouraging children to get active and involved in a team sport."
