Rams heading in right direction
Tuesday 25 March, 2008 12:00am
THE Penrith Rams continue to exceed expectations in the lead-up to the Sydney AFL season, after they annihilated Wyong by 67 points at Greygums Oval last Saturday.
After a hard fought match against Gosford the previous week, the Rams started strongly and were able to open up a comfortable lead in the hot conditions.
David Cummings had a sensational first quarter and was involved in all of the Rams early goals.
After scoring five goals in each of the first two quarters, the Rams headed into the long break with a comfortable 39 point buffer.
Rams chairman Michael Haynes said Collingwood scholarship player Nick Perry had a big impact on the game with hard running and precision kicking.
"We dominated again in the third quater with Steve McWilliam racking up a mountain of possessions," he said.
"Luke Barr provided a real headache for the Magpie defenders across half-forward."
In the final term the Rams took the opportunity to experiment with their lineup.
This allowed Wyong to briefly narrow the gap but the final result was never in doubt.
The Rams won the match 18-13-121 to Wyong's 8-6-54.
After the match Mr Haynes announced the Rams had recently negotiated a major sponsor arrangement for the 2008 season with the Red Cow Inn.
"The Red Cow is an iconic establishment in the Penrith area, and we see its rejuvenation over the past few years into such a vibrant venue as mirroring the direction that the Rams are heading."
